Inside guide to San Francisco

Where’s the best area to stay in San Francisco?

Everyone’s heard of Fisherman’s Wharf and it is one of the most common area people search for but it’s actually very touristy and often overpriced. And, whilst many people look for a water view in the area, oddly most of the hotels started off as motor lodges, so they have very limited views because most of the buildings are only 2 stories!!

Why not try these for size…….

SOMA

If you love your food you can’t go past SOMA, or South Of Market Area with it’s influx of new and innovative eateries.

Union Square

If shopping is your thing, head to Union Square area for the perfect neighborhood to shop the major retail brands‏

Embarcadero

If you love to exercise, it’s Embarcadero area for you with access to great outdoor spaces that will elevate your heart rate. Get up to see the sunrise and work out like a local by running along the Embarcadero by the Ferry Building to PIER 39 and back again.

North Beach

North Beach, rich in Italian heritage, compresses cabarets, jazz clubs, galleries, inns, family style restaurants and gelato parlors into less than a square mile. A perfect spot for cappuccino and espresso, North Beach is transformed into one of San Francisco’s most electric playgrounds by night; live music and dancing keep the streets swinging.

Not to miss…..

Be sure to take a visit to Red’s Java House on Pier 30. Opened in 1930 and renamed to Red’s Java House in 1955, it serves up a hearty breakfast or lunch with amazing views of the bay.

A must try is The Stinking Rose Restaurant which has become famous for celebrating the culinary euphoria of garlic and serving over 1,300 kgs of the pungent herb each month.

And no trip to San Francisco would be complete without heading to a baseball game if you happen to be there in season.
